La Piazza offers an authentic Italian dining experience in a unique, "urban rusticana" atmosphere that evokes the charm of a typical Italian piazza. The café specializes in authentic regional Italian dishes, such as handcut & baked pastas, risotto and, with every meal, our homemade focaccia.

Daily specials include unique meat & fish dishes & desserts. Our wine bar offers a rotating selection of wines and beers, as well as two kinds of sangria: a traditional Spanish red, and Sicilian-style white with peaches.

The dining room and facade of La Piazza are painted by Spanish painter, Jordi Pedrola. The trompe l'oeil style murals feature items and scenes typical of piazzas throughout Italy.

Trompe l'oeil is a French term literally meaning "trick the eye." As a painting style, trompe l'oeil has a history extending back to 400 B.C. and was a part of the rich culture of the ancient Greek and Roman empires. The murals unearthed at Pompeii are typical of these ancient paintings.

Mr. Pedrola currently lives in Chicago. He has created murals in Spain and the U.S. in both private and public buildings. He has shown his original paintings in art galleries on both sides of the Atlantic, and is available for portrait commissions. View more of his work at www.jordipedrola.com.
